Lavender Hill Mob inspires new PizzaExpress

PizzaExpress is celebrating the launch of its exciting new look restaurant at Lavender Hill. This spacious, open plan restaurant has been totally transformed, featuring artwork which pays tribute to the famous 1951 film, The Lavender Hill Mob.

Each PizzaExpress restaurant is individually designed – often using well known places, people or historical events from the area as the basis. Artwork, inspired by the colourful original posters and cartoons which promoted the Alec Guinness film, feature throughout the restaurant.

Manager, Pedro Paiva, said, “We have a friendly and enthusiastic team who are looking forward to welcoming everyone to our beautiful restaurant over a delicious pizza.”

Wandsworth Town one way system overhaul

Plans to radically change the notorious traffic jam black spot around Wandsworth Town Centre are gathing pace as Highway engineers at TfL are working closely with the council on plans that would significantly reduce traffic levels, improve vehicle flows and boost efforts to rejuvenate the town centre.

Traffic could be diverted away from the high street and parts of the town centre such as the area around Southside will be made pedestrian-friendly.

Transforming the town centre by removing much of its through traffic has been a long term strategic aim of the council, although the works can only be approved and carried out by TfL. It now seems TfL are taking action in response to council pressure, as well as the London Mayor’s Growth Fund, which helps local town centres within London by offering funds to rejuvinate and enhance them.

Wandsworth council Transport spokesman Cllr Russell King said: “Redesigning the one way system and removing the traffic that’s had such a negative effect on the town centre’s fortunes has been a key aim of the council for many years. I’m delighted that with these plans now gathering pace, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

“The impetus behind this new energy is the granting of planning consent to the Ram Brewery which has secured an essential piece of the financial jigsaw. It means we are able to work closely with TfL to secure this important long term objective.

“The schedule now is for works to begin in 2017 and be finished in 2019. The council will be doing all it can to make sure that everyone involved sticks to this timetable.”

The scheme, designed by architect Chris Medland of One-World Design, includes a 170m-long bridge to connect Imperial Wharf and Chelsea Harbour, where the Queen boarded the royal barge for the diamond jubilee flotilla last year, to Battersea on the south side of the river.

It will be made of three spans with three arches and will be open 24-hours-a-day.

Jubilee Footbridge passes planning hurdle

Last night patience was rewarded as LB Hammersmith & Fulham resolved to grant  Planning Permission for the Diamond Jubilee Footbridge, 6 votes to 2.

Swishing Party Poster

Swishing Party Battersea

It’s just a few days to go until Battersea’s first Swishing Party at Eat Play Love Café.

Battersea locals are encouraged to root around their wardrobes and bring along their quality clothes, shoes and accessories and exchange them for somebody eles’s Hidden Treasures!

Swishing is shopping without the hangover of a big credit card bill. We all bring nice, clean, presentable clothes that are lurking unloved in our wardrobe, and other girls fall in love with them and give them a good home. You might bring one sweater and take two pairs of shoes, or hang a party frock on the ‘Swishing Rail’ and take a pair of skinny jeans and feather boa.

The party is hosted by Eat Play Love, Battersea’s newest yummy mummy café offering a safe and relaxing environment for everybody, but particularly those with young children to come and enjoy good coffee, home-made nutritious food and finish a conversation while the children can play and roam in the free play area.

Rules of the Rail
